Community Involvement

San Antonio Children’s Shelter
Since 1901, The Children’s Shelter has been giving children the chance to dream. With emergency shelter services, residential treatment, basic and therapeutic foster care, special needs adoption, teen parenting services, and abuse prevention programs, the shelter helps create brighter futures for children every day. RVK helps supports the Children’s Shelter by holding a special treat day for the kids. We have also supported the Shelter by hand- assembling and donating fleece blankets.

Random Acts of Kindness
Principal Judy Zimmerman's desire to accomplish 50 random acts of kindness took on a life of its own as we enthusiastically donate time and talent, extending the hand of friendship to  people near and far. Whether delivering holiday snack bags to homeless people, donating coloring books and crayons to hospitalized children, making colorful fleece blankets for the Children's Shelter, writing cards of appreciation to military personnel, or handing goodies bags to local college students, the spirit of giving rules the day.

CANstruction is organized by the local chapters of the American Institute of Architects and the Society of Design Administrators to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank. RVK raises on average $5,000 and uses approximately 7,000 cans to build each CANstructure. Each CANstruction is then donated to the San Antonio Food Bank along with any surplus donations.

UTSA Diploma Dash
The UTSA Alumni Association holds their annual Alumni Dash in which RVK employees participated. Proceeds of this event benefit the UTSA scholarship fund and alumni programs.

Spare Parts
Spare Parts is a non-profit program that allows for area businesses to provide a steady stream of materials, that would have otherwise been thrown away, to be donated and used by art educators. Used colored markers, crayons, colored pencils and other art supplies are gathered together and donated to Spare Parts.
